On this day
I was in 5th grade. My teacher turned on the breaking news and we all cried. At 10 years old I knew what was happening to our country, and what was going to happen. One by one, parents were coming to pick up their kids to spend time with family. Then there was only me in the whole school. I rode the bus home alone that day to come home to my dad talking about this crazy war movie he fell asleep watching. I sobbed and told him it wasn’t a movie it was breaking news. He lost it and wouldn’t stop apologizing for not coming to get me. The next day he went and broke out his paint supplies and painted this exact picture on the side of his van. I still lose it when I see this photo. Never forget this tragedy that brought us all together. Gender, race, sexual orientation was non existent. We hugged our neighbor and took pride in our country.
